The View from the Window...

I was thinking recently about Alexander Graham Bell's quote: “When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”

I retired at the beginning of last year and was already a little nervous about my new future and then Covid came... and doors literally closed.

Life became all about looking through windows... the windows of our home at our neighbors across the street, the windows of our cars as we drove up to buy fast food, watched from the front seat while someone loaded our cars with the groceries we ordered on-line, and even if we ventured to a store, masks on, we looked through plexiglass windows when standing in the checkout lanes.

The challenges Covid created and the chaos it caused forced our lives into change.

I watched the world through my windows and television. I became inspired by those who served selfishly to heal the sick and feed the hungry. I applauded those who looked at their circumstances and decided to adapt and change. We saw stores and restaurants ranging from the Mom & Pop establishment to the Big Box stores adopt the "Curb Side Service" motto to keep revenue flowing; new roles were created for personal shoppers to help those who didn't want to go to the store; home-based on-line businesses sprung up for all kinds of products with masks being in high demand.

Retirement gave me time, Covid forced me to accept that time is really precious, and my new granddaughter inspired me to open my windows and make a change. So I made a decision and started my own little home-based, on-line business.
